Mangalyaan — Mars Orbiter Mission Blueprint

India's first interplanetary spacecraft, drawn as a technical blueprint.

On 5 November 2013, a PSLV-C25 lifted a 1,337 kg orbiter off the pad at Sriharikota. Ten months and 298 days later, a 440 N engine that had sat dormant in deep space fired for 1,389 seconds and put Mangalyaan into orbit around Mars. No nation had ever reached Mars orbit on a first attempt. It was built for about ₹450 crore, roughly US$74 million.

This poster reconstructs the spacecraft the way an engineering office would present it: orthographic elevations, a numbered components overview, cutaway detail of the 1.5 m cubic bus, the single deployed solar wing, the 2.2 m parabolic high-gain antenna, and the LAM engine that made the whole mission possible. Around the drawings sit the numbers — mission specifications, propulsion data, the five-instrument payload suite at 15 kg total, the highly elliptical 421.7 × 76,993.6 km orbit, and a timeline running from launch to the mission's conclusion in 2022.

Designed for a spacecraft rated for six months that kept working for eight years.
